Today, NAFCU posted a news article regarding the 12 priorities that they will use to guide their focus in representing Credit Unions. An interesting article on what Credit Unions could expect during 2011. Here are just a few of the priorities:
Continue to champion preservation of the federal tax exemption for all credit unions by educating legislators and regulators about credit unions’ unique member-owned, not-for-profit status.
Enhance the value of the federal charter, spearheading measures such as more member business lending authority and modernized capital standards that preserve mutuality.
Ensure through strong advocacy that legislative and regulatory efforts, including at the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, do not result in the imposition of additional regulatory burdens on the credit union industry.
